Collection includes his letters to his mother, Sarah T. Chase, in which he describes his life in Washington, D. C. and the early events of the Civil War, discusses the career of his brother Walter and other family matters, and mentions prominent Washington people, among them Abraham Lincoln. Includes his diary for the year 1861, when he was working in the United States Dept. of the Treasury, and his diary covering the years 1860 to 1874, as well as the docket book for his law firm, Chase, Hartley, and Coleman, covering the years 1870 to 1873. Includes his collection of autographs and an index for the collection. Also includes Sarah's letters to Chase.
